One of our family's favorite things to make is homemade tortillas because everything tastes better inside a tortilla. We have come across a lot of tortilla recipes, but this one is by far our favorite and it is the easiest.
Grandma Cheta's Homemade Tortillas
4 cups flour
2 level teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 1/2 cup hot water
Passed on by generations, many of Agnes Gutierrez's (Grandma Cheta) children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren have enjoyed these homemade tortillas. Serve warm with butter and enjoy a special treat!
1. Mix or sift dry ingredients.
2. Add oil and mix well.
3. Add hot water and knead mixture until it forms a ball.
4. Cover and let rest for 15 minutes.
5. Heat griddle until it is hot.
6. Once rested, divide the dough into small balls (2" diameter).
7. Roll out individual balls of dough on a floured surface. Tortillas should be about 8" in diameter.
8. Cook on griddle, approximately 35 seconds on each side.
9. Serve warm.
